FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions from EIS families. The Student Handbook has complete school policies.

What are the school hours?

Students may arrive and breakfast is served beginning at 7:30 a.m.; please do not drop students off before 7:30. Breakfast is served until 8:05, and classes begin promptly at 8:10 a.m. Dismissal is 2:50 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1:50 p.m. on Mondays. Special early-dismissal days are communicated separately. Students may not bring coffee or energy drinks to school.

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

For afternoon pick-up, enter on Roy Rd and follow the line to pick up your child. Don’t wait in the area designated for bus traffic, and for student safety never drive between buses or turn around in front of them after school.

Students who are picked up by a parent are not dismissed until the buses have left, so we encourage parents to pick up after 3:00 p.m. on regular attendance days.

How do I report an absence?

If your child will be absent, call the school office at 618-684-3527 before 8:00 a.m. and give the reason for the absence. If we haven’t heard from you by 10:00 a.m., the school will call home. Regular attendance matters, so please make every effort to have your child here and ready each morning.

How will I know if school is closed?

School closings and early dismissals are announced as soon as possible through our phone messaging service and are posted on the district website. You can also check local radio and television stations. Please keep a current phone number on file with the office so you receive these messages.

Who can ride the bus?

The district provides bus transportation for students who live 1.5 miles or more from school. At the beginning of the year, parents select one bus stop for pick-up and one for drop-off. Students may only ride their assigned bus; any exception must be approved in advance by the principal.

Can my child take medication at school?

All medication must be checked in through the school office. A completed School Medication Authorization Form is required before school staff can give any prescription or non-prescription medication.

Can I visit or drop something off?

The building is locked during the school day. Please buzz in at the main door and speak with the office before entering. Visitors sign in and out at the office. Lunches, forgotten homework, and other deliveries should be brought to the office, and we’ll get them to your child.

When should I keep my child home sick?

Keep your child home for a fever of 100.4°F or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, or a contagious illness. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

Can I send treats for a celebration?

Yes. Please arrange treats or snacks with the classroom teacher in advance. Treats must be store-bought, prepackaged, and individually portioned; homemade treats are not allowed.
